Kemp’s Machine Company was founded with a vision to provide the food processing & packaging industry with state-of-the-art equipment partnered with high quality service. Founder Greg Kemp, Sr. started his career in the early 70s working for Northwest Equipment Company, F.M.C., and AgriTech. During his tenure with AgriTech, he opened and ran a ginger root processing plant on the big island of Hawaii.

Greg Sr. opened his first business, Metal Craft Fabricators, in his early twenties and essentially ran it from the dashboard of the first of his many Chevy Suburbans. He focused on design, engineering and manufacturing of packing house equipment. It was this love for design, engineering, and the passion for building American-made equipment and structures out of raw steel that truly defined who Greg was. Greg later built a shop in Brownstown, Washington and expanded his clientele to include local farms and ranches.

Metal Craft Fabricators built and installed a variety of fruit and vegetable processing and packing equipment all across the state of Washington as well as in the Midwest. Greg successfully ran his business with his son, Greg Jr. on his hip.

In 1990, Greg changed the name of his business to Kemp’s Machine Co. with the dream of working with his son one day. Greg Sr. was a great teacher and mentored his son into becoming a leader in his business and in the manufacturing field. The father and son duo had a dynamic relationship that took them all over the country to design and build one-off custom pieces of equipment. Working together they fabricated industry-changing inventions that were adopted across many industries. During this period they installed the biggest apple packing line (at the time) in Minnesota one summer between Greg Jr’s sophomore and junior year in high school.

In 2018, Greg moved his business operations back to the Yakima Valley from Entiat and in 2020 he retired and sold Kemp’s Machine Co. to Greg, Jr., fulfilling their dream.

Greg Kemp, Jr. has grown Kemp’s Machine from strictly manufacturing to perfecting the art of innovation and integration. He has spent the last 15 years cultivating relationships with vendors all over the world with the goal of providing clients with tailored custom-design solutions that can’t be found anywhere else. Greg Jr’s outside-the-box thinking has kept Kemp’s Machine thriving and growing, keeping his father’s legacy alive.
